Above, a tapestry of stars; below, a sea of clouds.

Nos-4-a2 offered her his hand. Two smiled, laced her fingers with his, and placed her free hand on his shoulder. He held her waist and they began to sway.

In the absence of the moon, the couple animated the sky in a swirl of blue and red, dancing to music only they could hear, carried by the wind. The moisture that clung to them after their passage through the clouds grew into frost at such high altitude, setting their clothes aglitter. Without any obstacles to absorb the sound, their laughter carried far through the night.

Day 4.

Inspired by "No Regrets" by Rick Lawn. So far, I’ve written these drabbles during zero period, where I sit in the hall outside of the band room while stormkeeper56 has jazz band rehearsals. It’s lovely to be treated to an hour of live jazz music every day, especially because our band plays at a professional level! You know what’s not lovely? Waking up at 5:30 AM to drive to school an hour and a half before my classes start. Don’t get me wrong, I love the free live performance and I wouldn’t be able to do these tiny stories without the extra time, but I am NOT a morning person. In the end, it’s poor stormkeeper56 who suffers because I can’t get my ass out of bed on time...

As far as the song goes, the mood of my piece definitely deviates from the atmosphere of the music, but it helped me form the setting. It’s also just freaking gorgeous.

~Trivia~
My moirail, fizgig123, is also a part of our school’s highly exclusive jazz ensemble. He plays the bass trombone (a.k.a. bassbone), while stormkeeper56 plays trumpet! For whatever reason, they don’t take clarinets. I will remain bitter about that.
